Bury Rangers FC was formed in 1965, under the guise of Hertingfordbury Rangers FC.
This was a single senior side, competing in the McMullen’s Football League, with home matches played at Hertingfordbury Playing Fields.

In 1970, the club dropped the Hertingford pre-fix and became simply Bury Rangers FC. Additionally they formed a second senior side and also started an U11’s and an U13’s team. Match venues had changed from Hertingfordbury to the McMullen Brewery pitches in Port Vale, Hertford. The club managed along this path for another 30 years, with the main representation being from the Senior First and Reserve Teams in the McMullen League and limited expansion of the Youth Teams.
 
In 2000, the club embarked on developing the Youth section of the club. At that time the club we had approx 30 seniors and 140 youth players registered on our books. In 2005, the club celebrated it’s 40th year, by hosting a Bury Ball and was attended by both past and present Bury players.
 
In 2007, the club had expanded to having over 300 registered members, with boys being the biggest growth area, but perhaps the biggest success was Bury Rangers FC becoming the first Hertford club to attain the FA Community Chartered Club status. This is the pinnacle of the FA amateur club status, and even today there are currently less than 10 clubs across Hertfordshire. One of the factors in achieving the status was to create a Girls section within the Club. This has been achieved by Grant Palmer and his team with plenty of success on the way.
 
For 2010, the club enjoyed unprecedented success, with trophies won across all Age groups for both fair play and also for winning leagues and cups, and with the Girls being all conquering. It is very important to highlight that Bury Rangers FC is a very friendly club, which likes to build bonds on and off the pitch. This is reflected in how we play, as we have always been known as a “nice” club to play against, but now we are still able to continue that theme without it impacting our ability to win silverware.
 
The 2010-2011 season is a very exciting time for Bury Rangers, we will have over 500 players registered making us the the largest club in the Mid Herts Rural Minors League, with the capability to field boys football in every Age group from U6 to U18. We will be expanding the Girl’s section to have 5 teams over 3 Age Groups and we will be looking to expand the Senior teams with a 5 year plan to get into the FA Football Pyramid. Most importantly this will be the year where we finally get a Bury Rangers Clubhouse built, which after 45 years will give us a Physical presence and a social hub to the club”.
