St Albans City South 1 v 0 Bury Rangers Girls Whites
Bury Rangers Whites returned to the long grasses of last week’s heavy reverse at the hands of St Albans City North to play St Albans City South. Like the Bury Whites, South are also an improver squad and previous league results suggested this was to be a tight fixture. Despite encouraging signs from the outset the tall St Albans front girl broke away to notch from close range after about ten minutes. Thereafter Whites wrested the initiative and poured pressure on for the remainder of the half. Millie shone in the midfield throughout with accomplished play and Bury Rangers established some good positions. Izzy and Lorna looked at home in Bury shirts and turned in good debuts. Half time ended with no further goals and Cathy swapped the goalie gloves with Ruby.
Bury continued to press in the second half and forced a number of corners. Occasional St Albans attacks were dealt with ably by the once again excellent Libby playing alongside this week’s Man-of-the-match Holly in defence and Ruby in goal. Cathy’s dribbling took Bury into further good areas but perhaps the only criticism of this weeks much improved performance was the inability to unleash powerful strikes on target. Bury desperately deserved something from the game but unfortunately a now totally defensive St Albans held out.
However, good that the sizable contingent of enthusiastic visiting supporters got to see skills and sound principles from the training ground clearly finding their way into matches. Hitchin Hearts Belles away next Saturday.
