postheadericon Welwyn Pegasus v Bury Rangers Reds

Written by Webmaster | PDF | Print | E-mail

Bury Reds play their hearts out

It was a typical chilly November, ...er sorry, unseasonally cold May Saturday morning but the Reds braved the elements to an imposing looking Welwyn Pegasus side.

From the kick off home side Welwyn gained control of the ball and much of the play was within Bury's defense area. Sam quickly became an asset with several formidable saves from a burly No.3 on the opposing side. Charlie and Will worked hard through the half and delivered clearances through concentrated tackles. Emily too was up and down the pitch either trying to convert well placed opportunities by Reiss and Jackson or running back to tackle and defend. Despite some good running and nifty footwork from Archie, the Reds couldn't quite find the net.

The half time whistle blew only after Welwyn managed to get two consecutive goals past a hard working Bury Reds side.

Some sharp motivational coaching at half time that included a refresher on individual's positions saw the Reds come back to the second half more bold and determined. The half started more positively for the Reds and the ball found itself deep into Welwyn's defense area the majority of the time. Jackson took a beautiful shot set up by Freddie after a stunning run up the pitch, but unfortunately the ball went just wide of the net. Charlie and Will were working reminiscent of the old Arsenal back four and the repetitive focus on goal from Reiss and Archie was only tempered by Welwyn's hard working defenders. Sam and Emily too battled hard for the ball but were too unable to reach the back of the net. Whilst Welwyn sneaked another three goals passed the Reds, the score didn't reflect the effort and passion from the Bury players. The match was exciting to watch and many would have paid good money to see it!

Well done Reds. Wonderful football.
