The Bury boys had waited for kick-off a little longer than usual on this chilly Saturday morning due to the late arrival of their opposition, King George. However once the visitors were ready to play, a highly competitive match was underway. The ball went up and down the field several times with some excellent clearances from Jacob and Alex. However the pressure from St George prevailed and their star man, Alex, scored the opener. The visitors were in the lead after two minutes. 1 - 0.
From the restart there was a speedy pace of play which saw some lovely attacking from Jacob and William A. However a strong opponent kicked the ball towards the Bury net but was kept short of another goal by a fine save from William K. The ball was passed expertly up the field from player to player resulting in the first for Bury taken by the boy Oliver W. GOAL. 1 - 1.
Oliver and William A were given a well deserved break and substituted by Oliver G and Dion. Play recommenced and key King George player, Alex, was awarded a free kick but missed the goal by a mile.
After a little more attractive play saw an opening for Bury with a lovely pass from Oliver G to Dylan who cleanly saw the back of the net. GOAL 2 - 1 to the Bury boys. Magic.
The King George lads prevailed from the restart and took advantage of some nice passing leading to their second goal of the match. It was 2 - 2 when the ref blew the whistle for half time.
After a congratulatory team talk at half time, a motivated Bury team swapped ends and began the second half.
The pressure was intense for the first five minutes of the second part of the match but excellent defence saw good clearances by Oliver G and Dion plus saves from William K but eventually KIng George found the net and made it 2-3.
The ball was again wonderfully passed from player to player then St George kicked it out for a Bury corner. Dylan booted it into the box and Jo S met the ball with real skill for an all important equalizer. GOAL. 3 - 3.
The excitement was ranging from the touch line with sounds of 'go on my son' and 'that's my boy' coming from the visitor's myriad of supporters. Nice.
Bury, after King George's kick-off, regained the ball and it fell to the shifty feet of Oliver W who found the net to make it another. GOAL. 4 - 3. Only seven minutes to go...
King George regained their strength and managed to get the ball into the Bury box several times seeing William K meeting the mud again and again. Unfortunately one of those occasions got the better of him and the Geogie Porgies levelled the game. 4 - 4.
The last minutes of the game were a tense affair - more for the parents than the players - but the score remained level until the final whistle.
The Bury boys knew they delivered a sublime forty minutes of technically versed football. Beautiful. Only coach Paul's words at the end summed up their efforts. 'You were all man of the match'. There were no disagreements.
Stunning.
A big Super thanks to Darren Keen for writing this great match report
