13/11/2010 Bury Rangers Whites 2 Headstone Manor 1
After a couple of recent reverses, Bury Rangers Whites were looking to get their season back on track against the league's bottom side Headstone. Headstone to their credit had not read the script and started much the better side. They took the lead after a couple of minutes with a low shot into the corner. This was the shock Bury needed and they began to get their act together, as they took the game to Headstone.
For the rest of the half, it was mainly Bury on the attack, but the equaliser just would not come, with fine saves from the Headstone goalkeeper thwarting all Bury's efforts. Shots from Natalia Fernandez-Vinson and Lauren Willis went narrowly wide. Any attack from Headstone was defended ably by Victoria Moore, Rebecca Hill and Katy Thompson, with Rachel Janes coming to the rescue with several good saves.
Bury started the second half with renewed vigour and impetus prompted by a firm talk from coach Alan Moore. The equaliser arrived after forty two minutes, when a cross from Lauren Willis was swept home by Emily Hook. Headstone responded well and fought their way back into the game. However the Bury defence stood firm with no real threat to goal occurring.
All the pressure was now coming from Bury and a succession of corners led to several narrow escapes for Headstone. Bury duly got their reward with ten minutes to go, when Emily Hook scored her second goal of the match after good work by Natalia Fernandez-Vinson. Despite Headstone's best efforts, Bury held out for their first win of the season. Lauren Willis was named man of the match.
